PALS Students Create Autumn Apple Art

H. Frank Carey High School students in the district’s Promoting Academics through Life Skills program culminated the creation of their amazing autumn apple art with a celebration on Oct. 24.

The PALS students worked diligently on apple collages in Gina Samet’s art class. Each collage is made of hundreds of pieces of paper and features a background of neutral colors, an apple created from magazine cutouts and words that embrace the fall season.

On the last day of the project, Samet surprised the students with a festive reception where they were delighted to sample a myriad of apple-inspired treats, including apple cider, apple pie, pastries and freshly picked apples. The students also sang along to some of their favorite popular music and proudly posed with their artwork for a class photo at the end of the event.

“I love teaching this class and the PALS students,” Samet said. “They always make me so happy, and it was a proud moment for me to see them so excited about their artwork.”

PALS teachers Claire Iglesias and Joan Castles, along with Principal Christopher Fiore and Assistant Principals Sharon Flynn and Marc Isseks, also attended the festive celebration.
